The HudsonAlpha Educational Outreach team is hosting its Genetic Resources to Empower Alabama Teachers — GREAT — workshop this week. More than 100 educators from across North Alabama arrived at the Jackson Center on Wednesday to update their genetics knowledge.
WHNT News 19 spoke with Neil Lamb, PhD, vice president for Educational Outreach, and Jennifer Hutchinson, a biology content specialist with the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI).
“The goal is to give life science teachers new content about the field of genetics,” said Neil Lamb, PhD, vice president for Educational Outreach. “The field changes so quickly…this is a chance to give them updates things that are probably too new for their textbooks and put new content into their hands they can take back and share with their classroom.”
