Genetic Resources to Empower Alabama Teachers — GREAT — workshops update high school teachers’ genetics knowledge by highlighting recent scientific findings. Teachers will be introduced to applications based on these discoveries through two days of small group concurrent sessions and talks by HudsonAlpha educators.

GREAT V

This round of GREAT, our fifth round, focuses on current and emerging applications of technologies poised to impact our daily lives. This round has something for everyone, from new uses of DNA technology in criminal investigation to understanding the nuances of familial inheritance patterns. Join us for a rich learning experience packed with new content. Take home two new pilot kits to field test in your classroom.

Due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, GREAT V will be presented as a single-day workshop with smaller, more frequent, and more local workshops. All workshops as part of this content cycle are currently planned as in-person. However, local COVID case rates in the weeks leading up to a session may require shifting to a virtual format. In the event a planned workshop shifts to virtual, educator attendees will be shipped workshop materials before the event. HudsonAlpha will provide substitute reimbursement of up to $70 per day for virtual or in-person workshops. GREAT workshops are open for teachers in Alabama accredited public high schools.

With smaller workshop sizes, we anticipate filling quickly. If you miss the first workshop in your area, we will be returning to present the same workshop later in the year. Check this website for more locations and registration information.
