HudsonAlpha Associate Company Sponsors $50,000 Grant Opportunity
Huntsville, Ala. — Conversant Bio, a global leader in supplying the highest-quality human tissue and viable cell samples to the top U.S. Bio Pharmas and Biotechs to advance research, today announced it is sponsoring a grant to advance understanding of financial sustainability in the biobanking industry.
Conversant Bio, a resident associate company at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and an International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) Gold Partner, is currently seeking proposals from biobanking organizations who wish to participate in a financial sustainability planning project. A candidate will be selected from among the applicants who best represents the purposes of of the grant and Conversant Bio’s mission and vision to Improve human health by connecting patients, medical professionals and the research community to catalyze breakthrough research and novel therapeutic solutions. The awardee will be evaluated by expert consultants and then will receive recommendation for solutions that can enhance the prospect of financial sustainability and assistance implementing the recommendations.
Biobanks are a vital resource for researchers working to develop new treatments and diagnostics for the world’s worst diseases. The immediacy of sample availability and data provided by retrospective biobanks is essential to the infrastructure of biomedical research. However, financial sustainability threatens to cripple the biobanking industry. Great work is being done to understand this problem, but the lack of substantive solutions remains a problem. This project is designed to kick-start a movement to solve this problem one biobank at a time – because patients are waiting.
“I’m really excited about this project – financial sustainability is one of the most critical problems facing the biobanking industry today,” says Daniel Simeon-Dubach, M.D., the owner of Medservice Biomedical Consulting.
