What are neurodegenerative diseases? What is corticobasal degeneration/corticobasal syndrome?
Neurodegenerative diseases are those diseases which affect the neurons in the human brain. Over time, these neurons lose function and eventually die. These diseases affect millions of people around the world and currently there are no known treatments or cures. Common neurodegenerative diseases include Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Corticobasal degeneration (CBD) or corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is a rare neurological disorder. CBD/CBS is described as a loss of cells and a breakdown or deterioration of specific areas of the brain connected to motor and behavioral functions. The exact cause is unknown.
