Plant root cell development discussed at HudsonAlpha research seminar

HudsonAlpha virtually welcomed Siobhan Brady, PhD, to the Institute for the Research Seminar this week. Dr. Brady is a Professor in the Department of Plant Biology and Genome Center at the University of California, Davis and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Faculty Research Scholar. HudsonAlpha Faculty Investigator Jeremy Schmutz hosted the seminar.

In her talk entitled “Innovation, Conservation and Repurposing in Root Cell Development”, Brady discussed root cell type profiling between plant species. She shared her lab’s discovery that there are differences in root cell type development between the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana and tomato.
