Sr. Research Technician in Molecular Biology and Genomics

Sr. Research Technician in Molecular Biology and Genomics

HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is currently seeking a Sr. Research Technician in molecular biology and genomics in the group/lab of Dr. Greg Barsh in Huntsville, AL.

The major project is development and application of next generation sequencing technologies to gene expression, SNP discovery, and genome architecture in the genetics of mammalian pigmentary variation. Work will focus on gene discovery and characterization in natural populations including humans, and may also be extended to include molecular biologic approaches to the construction and analysis of genetically engineered mice.

Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field plus a minimum of 3 years relevant post-degree experience, and will directly contribute to lab management as well as to the research program. Significant prior experience with the theory and practice of standard molecular biology approaches is required, including the design and analysis of subcloning, DNA sequencing, and genotyping experiments. The candidate should also be extremely facile with first-tier bioinformatic tools used for genome and genetic analysis such as genome browsers, sequencing and molecular biology software; additional experience with scripting and computational tools using perl and R would be a plus. Strong organizational skills and lab management responsibilities are essential.

The candidate will work directly with the group leader, a senior scientist, and members of adjacent groups at the Institute, but must be able to work and troubleshoot experiments independently, have a very strong background and fund of knowledge in molecular biology and genetics, and have enthusiasm for doing research in a small interactive team of scientists. Candidates who meet the listed requirements should send a resume to  resumes@hudsonalpha.org   and reference Sr. Research Technician the Subject line
