As mental health awareness month teed off, family, friends and supporters came together for the inaugural Rebecca Partesotti Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit the HudsonAlpha Foundation. Nearly 100 golfers participated in the April 30 event at Valley Hill Country Club and raised more than $25,000 for the Partesotti-Siniard Memorial Fund for Psychiatric Research at HudsonAlpha.
After spending the day on the course, golfers enjoyed dinner provided by Bubba’s Catering.
In 2011, Rebecca Partesotti died from suicide after a years-long battle with depression. Rebecca’s parents Susan and Larry Partesotti, her sister Mollie Partesotti; along with Susan’s brother (Rebecca’s uncle) Tommy Siniard, his wife Susan Siniard and sister Paula Siniard Tally (Rebecca’s aunt) established the fund in her honor.
“Thank you for the generous donation you’ve made to the Partesotti-Siniard Memorial Fund for Psychiatric Research at HudsonAlpha,” remarked Michelle Amaral, PhD, HudsonAlpha senior scientist. “And most of all, thank you for sharing a little bit of Rebecca with us. Your donation will continue our work to examine the causes of a group of disorders that are as complex as they are numerous in the population.”
When the family presented the check, Larry Partesotti, Rebecca’s father, shared, “What kept us focused for this inaugural golf tournament is the work that is happening at HudsonAlpha. We are hopeful that the research happening here will someday lead to better treatments and a better understanding of psychiatric diseases.”
“These are very difficult diseases to study and understand, but this is something that we need to do – it is just so important,” said Rick Myers, PhD, HudsonAlpha president and science director. “We are grateful for the support from the community and especially from Rebecca’s family and friends for honoring her legacy.”
Thank you to the Partesotti and Siniard families, friends and nearly 50 sponsors of the event. Neat year’s tournament is scheduled for April 29, 2019. Visit www.facebook.com/RebeccaPartesottiMemorialGolfClassic for registration information, which will be available later this year.
Named funds at HudsonAlpha can be designated to contribute to the work of the Institute or to specific areas of research. Individuals can donate to an existing fund or establish a fund of their own, such as the Partesotti-Siniard Memorial Fund for Psychiatric Research.
