Ghunwa Nakouzi, PhD, FACMG
The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology has named Ghunwa Nakouzi, PhD, FACMG, director of the HudsonAlpha Clinical Services Lab, LLC (CSL).
Nakouzi joined the Clinical Services Lab as associate director in 2018. In the last three years, she has directly contributed to the expansion of the CSL and genetic testing options offered there.
“We are fortunate to have Dr. Nakouzi transition into a new role with the CSL,” said Devin Absher, PhD, Director for Genomic Health and Faculty Investigator at HudsonAlpha. “Her expertise in clinical genetics and genomics will allow the CSL to continue to grow its capabilities.”
Nakouzi has clinical experience in both molecular and biochemical genetics and experience in clinical test development and validation in both disciplines. Her dual-specialty empowers her with knowledge in a wide array of genetic disorders and with the ability to correlate results from molecular and biochemical tests to reach more accurate diagnoses for patients.
“I am grateful for the opportunity this new role provides,” said Nakouzi. “I look forward to collaborating across the Institute in search of new opportunities to improve patient outcomes while keeping HudsonAlpha on the forefront of precision medicine.”
Nakouzi received her PhD in Genetics from Case Western Reserve University in 2009. She completed her clinical fellowship training at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in clinical molecular genetics and clinical biochemical genetics.
The CSL was established in 2014 to advance the application of genomic technologies in clinical research and diagnostics. The lab offers whole genome sequencing and analysis, pharmacogenetic testing and genetic screening tests and is developing a number of new genetic and genomic clinical tests.
