Can Biotech…? HudsonAlpha wraps up another promising Biotech 201

HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology wrapped up the annual Biotech 201 seminar series this week where more than 600 attendees joined Dr. Neil Lamb, vice president for Educational Outreach, in exploring a broad range of societal challenges that can be addressed using biotechnology.

“I really enjoy spending my Tuesday nights at Biotech and knowing that those of you watching online are sitting on the edge of your seats at 6:29 waiting for the seminar to start!” said Lamb.

In addition to dynamic presentations from Dr. Lamb, attendees enjoyed a series of videos that explained how we can harness the power of biotechnology to solve a crime, predict someone’s death, create “designer babies” and colonize life on Mars. Videos included guest appearances from Elvis, the Grim Reaper, and Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

“Biotech 201 is an amazing opportunity for professional learning for educators and understanding for the public, so this is a win-win,” said Jennifer Hutchinson, a biology content specialist with the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI).

Biotech 201 is a follow-on course for those who have completed Biotech 101. Sign up for the Learners newsletter and be the first to know when Biotech 101 registrations opens this fall https://hudsonalpha.org/learners.

Special thanks to the Jackson Center, Orange Beard Films and the Alumni Association for making Biotech 201 possible.
