HudsonAlpha’s public education series returning to Dothan June 3rd

Registration open for “HudsonAlpha U: Understanding Genetics Nobel-ity” event at Downtown Books

Kelly EastDOTHAN (May 12, 2025) – The spirit of scientific discovery is coming to the Wiregrass on Tuesday, June 3, as Downtown Books (150 North Foster Street) hosts the summer installment of HudsonAlpha’s public education series entitled “HudsonAlpha U: Understanding Genetics Nobel-ity.”

The event begins at 6 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required as seating is limited. Click here to register online. The event will include light refreshments and several book giveaways.

Led by Kelly East, HudsonAlpha’s Vice President of Educational Outreach, the event will spotlight some of the world’s most influential scientists, those former Nobel Prize winners whose groundbreaking work in genetics has shaped the field and propelled modern genomic research forward. East will explore the science behind their discoveries and the historical and cultural context in which they worked, offering insights into how today’s researchers continue to build on their legacy.

“We are honored to welcome ‘HudsonAlpha U’ to Downtown Books to help spark curiosity about science and discovery right here in our community,” said Troy Fountain, owner of Downtown Books. “It’s a joy to be a place where stories and science meet—and where learning never stops.”
