Background
Now in its 17th year, the HudsonAlpha BioTrain Internship Program has mentored over 450 students in biotechnology-related fields. Many of these interns have gone on to achieve remarkable success, with some returning to HudsonAlpha or our partner companies as employees, while others are making significant contributions to STEM careers around the globe.
Nature of the Program
The BioTrain Internship program is an educational training opportunity for post-secondary students. Interns commit to participating between 20 and 30 hours per week for nine weeks during the program. It is not expected that an intern will replace a typically paid position, but rather that the intern is providing assistance while being trained, mentored, and prepared to move into a future professional position.
Student Eligibility and Stipends
Our goal is to create a bioscience workforce to support the future needs of our economy, especially the Alabama economy. To be eligible to participate in the BioTrain Internship program, students must attend a college or university in the state of Alabama OR have a permanent address in Alabama and attend college elsewhere are eligible to apply. Applicants must also have graduated high school.
Interns are paid a summer stipend based on the hours worked each week (20 hours/week—$2,700; 25 hours/week—$3,375; 30 hours/week—$4,000).
