HudsonAlpha Associate company launches new product for itchy skin

Years of NIH-supported research led to the commercial launch of a first-of-its-kind patch designed to protect irritated skin while delivering continuous soothing support.

For millions of people living with dry, itchy skin, the daily routine is all too familiar: apply a cream, hope it lasts, and try not to scratch.

For AJ Singhal, Founder and CEO of HudsonAlpha associate company Kalm Wellness, that routine became personal.

When his six-year-old daughter developed painful eczema flare-ups after swim practice, the itching quickly took over family life. Nights were interrupted by scratching, creams and plastic wrap had to be applied over and over, and nothing seemed to provide lasting relief or protect her skin from further damage.

Instead of accepting that as the standard of care, Singhal asked a different question:

What if protecting the skin is just as important as soothing it?

That question became the foundation for KALM Patch, a new skin patch designed to create a protective environment over dry, itchy skin while delivering continuous soothing support for up to three days.

Unlike traditional creams and ointments that can rub off, wear off, or require frequent reapplication, KALM Patch combines a gentle silicone adhesive with a highly purified compound derived from licorice root to help soothe irritated skin while shielding it from scratching and everyday irritants.

We weren't trying to create another cream. We were trying to solve a problem our own family was living with every day. We realized that soothing the skin was only part of the solution. It also needed protection.

The product represents years of research and development supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, along with support from Innovate Alabama, CFD Research, angel investors, and other innovation partners.

Designed to be soft, flexible, and comfortable, KALM Patch can be trimmed to fit different areas of the body and worn continuously for up to three days, helping simplify daily skin care routines.

“As more people look for alternatives to messy, repetitive skin care routines, we believe there’s an opportunity to rethink how we care for irritated skin,” Singhal said. “Our goal is simple: help people protect their skin while it heals.”

KALM Patch is now available for purchase at www.KalmWellness.com.
