Trace it back to Frances Bowman’s life science class.

Neil Lamb was a seventh-grader in Chattanooga.  He brought in a Ziploc baggie of water like Ms. Bowman instructed. He sat down at a microscope and looked through the eyepiece at a water droplet sandwiched on a slide and … oh, what he saw.

Organisms like he’d never imagined, all swimming around like they had someplace to go.

“I was hooked,” he said.

Lamb - now Dr. Lamb - is director of educational outreach at the HudsonAlpha Institute of Biotechnology. His mission is to kindle those oh-my moments everywhere he goes.
